The editorial team of the online division of RTL and n-tv tested the new 2021 hörbert model with a microphone.

The hörbert team is delighted that the testers have subjected our hörbert to such a comprehensive test and reported very positively about it.
The following features of hörbert were highlighted as advantages:

• Sustainable concept. Product made from wood from sustainable forestry, all parts are repairable.
• Quality of materials and workmanship
• child-friendly operation and volume
• good sound
• long battery life
• flexible usage options
• large storage capacity for audio content – the included memory card holds 100 hours of content
• no follow-up costs for audio content, since hörbert offers an inexhaustible repertoire through its recording function for Bluetooth streams or internet radio.

There are also a few points of criticism that we would like to address to answer your questions directly:

• Is the price really high? Maybe at first glance, but the equipment is vast and the follow-up costs are almost zero. hörbert’s included memory card offers space for 50 hours or for 100 hours with an 8 GB card and it comes pre-loaded with over 2 hours of free music and audiobooks. As far as we know, no other player offers this much space and pre-loaded content from the factory. And due to hörbert’s openness, all kinds of content – even free ones – can be loaded, or directly listened to as internet radio and recorded. It doesn’t get cheaper than this. With WiFi for internet radio, Bluetooth streaming and the option of using 2 Bluetooth headphones simultaneously, there are no unfulfilled wishes. And it’s all included.
  hörbert’s quality and the fact that it is made of real wood come at a price. Made in Germany also has its price. However, with hörbert, you are giving your child a loyal companion and friend for their entire childhood and beyond. Children quickly understand that they have something valuable with hörbert. It is designed for a long lifespan.
• The pollutant note from Stiftung Warentest in the large test 11/2019? Here, the older hörbert model 2011 was tested and crowned the sole test winner with an overall grade of 1.8. Of course, we asked Stiftung Warentest back then what was the reason for the satisfactory pollutant grade. We complied with the required limits at all times, therefore the pollutant note did not affect the overall evaluation of the hörbert model 2011. As was also read in the test report back then, the outer coating and the wood were pollutant-free.
  In the tests by Stiftung Warentest, grades are awarded not only based on compliance with limit values but also if they exceed the lowest detectable threshold. In addition, the products are tested with all accompanying parts.
  And the balloons, of all things, that we included with our hörbert back then, messed up the evaluation. These in that particular delivery contained 0.54 mg/kg of nitrosable substances. (Limit value for N-nitrosable substances according to Standard 100 OEKO-TEX: 5.0 mg/kg)
  Since we could easily do without this free addition, we have not included balloons since then. For one of the colorful plastic buttons on hörbert, which was above the lowest detectable threshold but which we could not do without due to construction at the time, we have now found an alternative in the new hörbert model 2021, as all button caps are now made of wood!
  hörbert is definitely the climate-responsible variant of a children’s music box and will now surely score optimally in the pollutant note.
• To set the SET functions of hörbert, you must unscrew it at the back, turn it on, press the SET mode button, and then activate the desired functions at the front with the colorful buttons. This requires a little time and patience, that’s absolutely correct. But don’t worry: you only have to do it once and can set all the desired functions at this one time. To prevent children from accidentally changing hörbert through the colorful buttons at the front, we have made the activation/deactivation of functions accessible only to adults. It’s true that to use the recording function for Bluetooth streams, internet radio, and voice recordings (if the mic is included), the memory card must be edited with hörbert’s software. You essentially need to inform hörbert via the memory card on which of the colorful buttons the recordings should be allowed.
  If you want to listen to internet radio, you also need to configure the WiFi data via the memory card.
  The operation of the hörbert software was highlighted by testers as simple and intuitive.

In summary, we are very pleased with this test report as it positions hörbert as a good alternative to the common major competitors, especially if you stand behind its values and appreciate the flexible usage options.
