You are looking for a card reader for your computer but don’t know which one?
After reading this article, you will be able to make a purchase decision. The article also contains background information for understanding; if you’re not interested in that, simply scroll to the bottom of the text.
For hörbert 2011, we recommend SDHC memory cards in sizes from 4GB to 32GB and a Class 4 speed.
For hörbert from the October 2021 model onwards (the one without the toggle switch), we recommend SDHC memory cards between 4 and 32 GB. The speed class should no longer matter for the new model.
We deliver these cards preloaded with our hörberts, and you can also purchase them individually and empty from our shop. Since hörbert always comes to you with a preloaded memory card, you don’t have to immediately provide new listening content.
But how can you load hörbert’s memory card with your computer? Don’t worry: Most computers have a built-in memory card slot for these very wide-spread cards. On PCs, it is usually located at the front, where the CD/DVD drive is. On notebooks, you can usually find the SD card slot on the left or right side.
And what if not? If your computer or notebook does not have an SD card reader, you can easily retrofit it: There are small adapters available for little money everywhere in stores. You simply plug these adapters into a USB port of the computer or notebook.
Since USB ports are also evolving, there are various versions here, but you can differentiate them just by looking.

On the right, you can see a somewhat older USB-3 socket. Inside, it can have either a blue (USB-3) or a white (USB-2 or 1) plastic part.
Now you can purchase a suitable SD-card adapter based on the available socket. Here are two simple examples:

For a USB-C connection, you need a card reader like this:
