Frickenhausen: Door Opener Day of “The Show with the Mouse” at Winzki
October 3, 2019, is dedicated to children and families: “The Show with the Mouse” (WDR) has called for the ninth nationwide “Door Opener Day.” In our region, doors that are usually closed to children have opened.
Live factual stories come from the Frickenhausen manufacturer Winzki, the maker of Hörbert, a sustainable wooden MP3 player for children.
On Thursday, October 3, the company opened its factory gates for a total of 20 children along with their parents and siblings. There, the young explorers could discover how music gets into the wooden box. Very exciting is the first step on the raw wooden casing: First, the laser cutter, whose light beam is “almost as hot as the sun,” engraves the logo on the front and quickly cuts out the holes for the controls with a light beam. At the assembly stations, the children can pitch in and, under guidance, use screwdrivers to attach the circuit board with the colorful Hörbert buttons and the speaker inside. During the one-and-a-half-hour activity, they also learn that the natural material wood – unlike plastic – is an environmentally friendly material.
The young visitors are allowed to assemble a music box made of wood with personal name engraving and Mouse logo and take it home as a souvenir.
The company Winzki has been producing Hörbert since December 2011. Meanwhile, 20 employees in Frickenhausen on now 1500 square meters assemble each player by hand, develop new functions, and work on expanding the Hörbert family. For example, special models for people with disabilities. Those who want to get to know Hörbert outside of the Door Opener Day can visit the manufacture during the factory sale opening hours and buy a discounted B-stock Hörbert. www.hoerbert.com
