Did you know that there are more than 30,000 tree species in the world? There are giant sequoias that grow 100 meters tall and bonsai trees that are only as big as a cat. Some are light, others dark. Some are hard, some soft. We use these characteristics for hörbert. Its housing is made of three local wood species. They are light, pleasing to small and large hands, and yet robust and light. Do you know which wood hörbert is carved from? No? Then pay attention! We want to tell you about hörbert’s sound body and introduce you to the natural product wood.
Whether beech, poplar, or oak. Wood is not the same as wood. The tree species in this world can roughly be divided into deciduous and coniferous trees. They all have different grain patterns and color tones, are of different weights, and grow sometimes fast, sometimes very slowly. Every piece of wood from which hörbert’s housing is made is a true unique, just like a human fingerprint.
It is important to us that your children and also your grandchildren continue to enjoy forests. Therefore, hörbert’s wood comes from certified sustainable forestry. Its frame is made of solid beech. It is one of the most popular wood species in Germany. The advantages are clear: the wood has a high density. This refers to the density of the wood and indicates how stable and wear-resistant it is. Tree species with a density of 550 kilograms per cubic meter are counted as hardwood. So if your child accidentally drops hörbert… no worries, it can withstand a lot. Additionally, beech feels nice in the hand, grows quickly, and with its light color, fits beautifully in any child’s room.
That’s not all. hörbert’s front panel is made of poplar wood. It is one of the softwoods that grow quickly and are well suited to create new habitats for rabbits, badgers, and deer. The back panel of hörbert is made of birch wood, which also grows quickly and has the great property of being light and stable. Birch is a hardwood. Recognizable by its smooth trunk wrapped in white bark. You have probably already shown your children this while walking in the forest.
Speaking of different tree species: the greatest diversity can be found in the southern part of our globe. Especially in the rainforest in South America. The rainforest is incredibly important for the climate worldwide and is strongly in need of protection. Of course, none of the woods used in hörbert are tropical woods, as it is completely made of local, European wood species.
