You can easily connect your mobile phone, tablet or computer to hörbert and use hörbert as a Bluetooth speaker.
This way your phone is yours again and your Spotify, audible or youtube playlists provide entertainment in the children’s room.

With a hörbert that already runs the Butterfly firmware (from November 2024), you can use the Browser Set Mode – a convenient web interface – to make all necessary settings:

If your hörbert doesn’t have the Butterfly firmware yet, or if you prefer to make the settings using the colourful buttons at the front, read on below.

Activating Bluetooth and pairing via the SET button using the SET template:

1.) Step 1: Activating Bluetooth and pairing in SET mode. Note: This only needs to be done once!

  1. Open hörbert’s back panel using a coin and pull it out.
  2. Then switch on hörbert once by pressing the rotary control. It will then play normally from the memory card.
  3. Press the SET button inside. hörbert goes silent and is now in SET mode.
  4. Press the light green button at the front to activate Bluetooth. A single beep must sound, meaning: Bluetooth is activated.
  5. Press the yellow button for pairing. A single beep must sound, meaning: Pairing is activated.
  6. Then press the SET button inside hörbert again to save. hörbert will then play from its memory card again.
  7. Switch hörbert off again.

2.) Step 2: Switch on Bluetooth speaker mode

  1. Press twice at intervals of about 0.5 seconds on hörbert’s rotary knob at the top. hörbert won’t play from its memory card at all then. Ascending signal tones sound as confirmation that hörbert is now going into Bluetooth speaker mode.
  2. Now you have 60 seconds to pair hörbert in the list of Bluetooth devices with your phone or another transmitter.
  3. Then start a playlist, a track or e.g. also a youtube music video on the transmitter, hörbert will then play all audio sources from its speaker.
  4. Attention: If you want to stop streaming and switch off hörbert, press the rotary control at the top once. Then hörbert is off. It’s not enough to simply disconnect at the phone. hörbert then stays on and consumes power, waiting for a new transmitter…

3.) Note on the Bluetooth recording function:

If you want to also record the Bluetooth streams to the SD card, another step is needed beforehand.

4.) Tip: Deactivating the pairing function after successful first pairing

Once you have successfully paired all known and desired Bluetooth transmitters in your household with hörbert, we recommend then deactivating the pairing function. This way no unwanted external devices can “interfere”. This works as follows:
