Set up hörbert as a podcast player with Butterfly 2 – here’s how to do it in three minutes

Preparation

1. Firmware update to Butterfly 2:

-> First, install the firmware update to version Butterfly 2 (release 15.01.2026) on your hörbert, if you haven’t already done so. For more information, see the firmware update instructions.

2. Start Browser Set Mode for hörbert

-> Then start Browser Set Mode for hörbert.

Step 1: WLAN settings

 

  • Open the WiFi menu item in the browser’s Set Mode.

  • Activate WiFi
  • Enter the Wi-Fi name and password for your home 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.
  • Click on ‘Save and test’.
  • Open ‘Advanced settings’ at the bottom of the same window.
  • Select a time under ‘Connect to Wi-Fi and check for podcast updates’.
  • Select your time zone.
  • Go to the main menu and click on PLAYLISTS.

Step 2: Add podcast to playlist

Select PLAYLISTS from the main menu and then select the colourful hörbert button on which you want to save a podcast:

  • The playlist content window will open.
  • Above the title overview, there are buttons for adding radio stations, files and podcasts. Click on the yellow ‘+Podcast’ button.

  • Enter a keyword in the search bar, e.g. ‘Die Maus zum Hören’ (The Mouse to Listen To), and wait for the search results to appear.
  • Then click once on the correct search result.
    The corresponding podcast will be inserted at the top of the ‘Podcast URL’ line:

  • In the field below, you can set the number of episodes you want to download later.
  • Click on the blue ‘Save’ button. The podcast’s control file will now be added to the playlist.

  • You can now download all the episodes you want using the download button in the control file (the symbol with the downward-pointing arrow). Downloading all episodes can take a lot of time. Or download individual episodes using the download button for each episode displayed under the general control file. The remaining episodes will then be downloaded automatically by hörbert at the preset time when it is switched off and connected to the configured Wi-Fi network.
  • After successful download, click on the grey ‘Save and close’ button in the top right-hand corner of the window to save the playlist.

Exit Browser Set Mode using the round ‘Disconnect’ button in the main menu. This is the circle interrupted by a vertical line at the top:

 

hörbert will now restart. Select the playlist with the podcast and click through to the desired episode, unless you have already added it to the top of the playlist.
