April 28, 2020 – Certified Face Shield Instead of Fabric Mask

Winzki in Frickenhausen introduces the ShieldKit – an almost invisible face shield that is delivered flat as a kit.

Obligation to Cover Mouth and Nose

Anyone who has not been wearing a mask in public transport or while shopping since Monday this week must face a fine of 50 EUR. But what is the most sensible way to cover mouth and nose? Professional masks are scarce or reserved for medical sectors. Everywhere you now see people with self-sewn cloth masks. However, these fabric coverings often have the disadvantage of getting wet quickly, making it difficult to breathe underneath them and also complicating communication through less clear speech and obscured facial expressions. Additionally, the mucus membranes of the eyes are not protected by a cloth mouth-nose mask.

The Face Shield Made of PETG as an Alternative

Behind a face visor, however, one can breathe normally and speak understandably. It facilitates successful communication where recognizing the facial expressions of the conversation partner is important.

Certification is Key

Winzki normally produces Hörbert, the wooden MP3 player for children. Through the aid initiative as part of “Open-diy-projects.com” came CEO Rainer Brang to the idea to use the company’s production capabilities and the existing laser cutters, not just for milling and engraving the wooden cases for the children’s player, but to supply the visors for the voluntary project.

Since it is necessary for many public institutions and aid organizations, however, that a product is tested, Rainer Brang developed a new variant of the visor and had it certified by a recognized test laboratory.

His visor is certified as personal protective equipment of category II according to DIN 166 following the simplified test principle COVID-19.

The ShieldKit Face Shield Kit

The product is called ” ShieldKit ” and is a kit that can be sent flat in an envelope, without getting damaged during shipping. Using an assembly video on www.shieldkit.de, the shield can be assembled into personal protective equipment in just a few steps.

The face shield can be adjusted to the wearer’s head size with an adjustable strap. It can be disinfected with alcohol-based sterilization agents and reused.

The wearer and the person facing them are thereby protected against droplet infection. The shield also prevents unconscious face touching.

The ShieldKit can be ordered for 5.95 EUR via the site www.shieldkit.de.

For public institutions, medical areas, aid organizations, schools, etc., special conditions and volume discounts are available upon request.
