Find out everything about hörbert's new podcast feature here. Simply add your favourite podcasts to hörbert's playlists using keyword search and let hörbert automatically download new episodes via Wi-Fi at the desired time.

hörbert is becoming even more versatile: with the latest BETA firmware version of Butterfly2 (Release October 31st, 2025), your hörbert now also becomes a podcast player! This means you can easily listen to your favourite podcasts – naturally with the familiar hörbert convenience and secure offline mode for children. Does your child love the programme ‘Die Sendung mit der Maus’ (The Show with the Mouse)? Then save the podcast ‘Die Maus zum Hören’ (The Mouse to Listen To) in just a few steps – and your children can listen to exciting stories and reports without the internet. Your smartphone is yours again!

Listening to podcasts with hörbert – a benefit for older people too

It’s not just children who benefit from the new podcast function: senior citizens are also discovering hörbert for the first time. With its simple operation, large buttons and clear sound, hörbert is the ideal companion for older people’s everyday lives – without any complicated technology.

Podcasts offer a wealth of entertaining, informative and stimulating content: from exciting audio stories to travel podcasts, news, nutrition tips, music programmes and memories from times gone by. Set it up once and then enjoy an endless supply of new, high-quality audio content.

Whether alone, in a care facility or together with others, hörbert brings topics of conversation, entertainment, joy and stimulation into everyday life. It’s a wonderful way to stay connected and curious – at any age.

The latest firmware update for hörbert brings these new features:

Use hörbert as podcast player:

  • You can save your favourite podcasts to playlists.
  • You can find and save podcasts using a keyword search.
  • You can choose how many episodes of the podcast hörbert should keep.
  • You can specify that individual podcast episodes should be kept.
  • Automatic podcast download: You can set the time at which hörbert silently wakes up to automatically download new podcast episodes.

Settings for hörbert via the SET Mode:

  • You can start Set Mode without unscrewing the back of hörbert.
  • You can reformat the memory card in Set Mode using the browser, without needing an SD card reader or computer. Prerequisite: you have already formatted the card on a computer or purchased it pre-formatted.
  • You can set hörbert so that it does not search for headphones when Bluetooth is activated after switching on. Then it can only be used as a Bluetooth speaker.
  • Recordings with the voice microphone are louder.

Here's how to update the firmware for your hörbert:

Quick Start Guide for the podcast function:

  1. Start the Browser Set Mode of hörbert
  2. Click on ‘WiFi’ in the main menu. Activate your home Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz) and enter the Wi-Fi name and password once.
  3. In the ‘Advanced Settings’, select the time at which hörbert should wake up silently and download new episodes.

    1. Choose your playlist:

    2. Click on „+Podcast“. If you know the podcast URL, you can enter it directly there, give the podcast a name and save it.

    3. You can also start a keyword search for a podcast by entering a search term. In the example below, we are searching for ‘Die Maus zum Hören’ (The Mouse to Listen To). Select a podcast from the list of results. At this point, you can also define how many episodes hörbert should keep and save your settings.

    4. hörbert will now download the podcast control file. You will then find it in the playlist, together with the preview for the podcast episodes.
    5. If you then click on the download icon in the parent control file, hörbert will download the entire number of episodes displayed. Depending on the length of the podcast, this may take several minutes.

    6. If you only want to download a single episode at first, click on the download icon to the right of the desired episode.
    7. hörbert then automatically downloads the other episodes at the preset wake-up time, provided that it is connected to your home Wi-Fi network at that time. If hörbert is switched on at that time, it will not download any episodes. We recommend setting the wake-up time so that hörbert is definitely not in use, e.g. at night.

This update opens up a whole new world of sound – exciting stories, educational programmes and music podcasts: hörbert brings them right to your home.
